Welcome.  I have put together this web site to show the diverse experiences and talents in my photography work, also,  I am using this site to notify current clients that I no longer live in San Diego, Ca. (year 'round)    I am currently freelancing for the USA Today, the NBA, and the Associated Press out of  Salt Lake City, Utah

For the past 6 years I have worked with Sports Illustrated as a freelance lighting and camera technician, installing strobe equipment and multiple  remote camera systems in arenas throughout the west covering the NBA, NHL, and NCAA basketball.  Besides lighting major arenas, I have extensive training in portrait lighting, location and studio.  Though most of the work lighting portraits of athletes is done outdoors, I have had the opportunity to work on projects in locations ranging from a commercial television production  studio in Chicago to peoples' kitchens in their homes.  Shipping equipment around the country is an intangible associated with my job responsibilities at Sport Illustrated.  The logistics of transporting equipment, film, and persons are an ongoing challenge working on the national level.  This has given me extensive knowledge of shipping using commercial airlines and shipping companies, such as Fed-Ex.

I was employed as a stringer for the Associated Press in the San Diego Bureau for the same amount of time.  I started shooting for  the AP  the summer I graduated from San Diego State University, in 1993,  hand processing film at sporting events and shooting general news assignments .  As a stringer in the San Diego market I was exposed to journalistic assignments ranging from illegal immigration at the US / Mexico border  to brush fires and the 1997 GOP National Convention.

San Diego has been the host of the America's Cup in 1994, the Super Bowl and the World Series in 1998, including two PGA golf tournaments each year; all of which I participated in the coverage of.  I worked for the San Diego Padres as a photographer during their 1997 season, in which Ken Caminiti won the NL MVP Award, and  their 1998 season, which took them to the World Series.   As a wire service stringer I have been introduced to the need for spontaneous creativity,  in both portraiture and news event coverage, and the timeliness of the modern digital era.  With my New Nikon D1,  laptop and Nikon LS-2000 scanner, I am able to shoot both film and digital  at any resolution and transmit via the internet using a FTP program or E-mail.

My plans for relocating to Salt Lake City are to continue to freelance in both sports and editorial  news.  The future of the region looks promising with the Winter Olympics coming in 2002.  The presence of a NBA team and the events associated with two major arenas in a metropolitan area is more of an opportunity than what is available in San Diego.  Being the state capital of Utah,  Salt Lake City also offers more of an in-depth coverage of  a political community.  I hope you find this site both informative about my photography work and entertaining.  I have had the opportunity of photographing subjects ranging from the President of the United States to Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan.

Enjoy the pictures.
